Fudan Budapest to be the 2nd biggest Chinese university outside China, check out how it will look – PHOTOS
The VP of the Chinese university said at an online conference on Thursday that the four campuses of the Fudan University in Shanghai have 40 thousand students and more than 3,000 teachers.
He stated that the Hungarian state generously supports the project, and they talked about creating a Budapest campus for Fudan for the first time during the visit of Innovation and Technology Minister László Palkovics in Shanghai. However,
the epidemic baulked the project,
so Xi Jinping, the President of China, signed the relevant strategic agreement with the Hungarian government only at the beginning of this February.
According to the vice president, Fudan will be an independent and autonomous institution, and they registered it in Hungary to make it able to issue a Hungarian degree. The campus will be in the southern part of Budapest on the eastern bank of the Danube. Currently, they plan to create four faculties: Arts and Social Studies, Medicine, Public Administration, Natural Sciences and Technology.
According to the plans, 6,000 students will be able to study there. 1/3rd of them will be Hungarian, 1/3rd Chinese, while 1/3rd will be foreigners from other countries. There will be 5-600 teachers coming from everywhere because they want to be part of the global competition.
He added that
Fudan Budapest would be the second-biggest Chinese campus outside China,
including its four campuses in China. Only the Malaysian campus will be bigger than the Hungarian one.

As we reported before, the Hungarian opposition swore to halt the project when they come to power after the 2022 parliamentary elections. Gergely Karácsony, Lord Mayor of Budapest, and Krisztina Baranyi, the mayor of Ferencváros, said that they would organise a referendum regarding the issue. Opposition politicians say that the project is not worth it, and the tremendous amount of loan (HUF 440 bn, EUR 1.26 bn) the state takes out from China to build the campus is too high.
It has become clear that the first mass demonstration following last Sunday’s grand reopening will be organised against the Fudan project on June 5 on Heroes’ Square.
